Project Description
Taking into account the unique characteristics of the shipping and shipbuilding industries, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) are carrying out a joint project. MOTIE is responsible for the development of core technologies for green ships, including equipment, while MOF is responsible for developing laws and regulations for onshore and offshore demonstrations and promoting the use of green ships. Both ministries are responsible for the standardization (IMO, ISO) to lead technology development standards.

Strategy field
Strategy field 1
Developing CO2 minimum emission internal combustion engine that uses ammonia (carbon-free fuel), original and core technology of green ships, and CO2 zero emission fuel cell system, and developing export-focused high value-added ship DA basic design package to secure future industrial comparativeness (MOTIE)
Strategy field 2
Proposing short, mid and long-term alternative technologies (fuel mixing standard, electrical propulsion, use of ammonia) regarding greenhouse gas reduction in the shipping and shipbuilding industry, and developing related test and evaluation technology (electrical propulsion system) (MOF)
Strategy field 3
Developing and managing a platform to develop core technologies (rim drive demonstration, battery-fuel cell hybrid system demonstration) for coastal ships propulsion systems and supporting the supply and extension of environmentally-friend ships (MOF)
Strategy field 4
Leading international technology (MOTIE&MOF) in the green ship sector through IMO document and ISO standardization, and distributing technology by developing standards for certification of green ships and improving national laws and regulations (MOF)
